UAlberta’s Faculty of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Randolph (Randy) Wimmer as interim Dean of Education, for the period of July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, or until such time as a new Dean is appointed.
With an outstanding record of administrative and academic achievements, Wimmer will provide a smooth transition in leadership over the next year. His priorities include improving the student experience and continuing to build on the faculty’s established reputation for excellence in teaching and educational research—a reputation recently confirmed by the QS World University Rankings by Subject, which ranked UAlberta Education number 42 out of more than 800 of the top faculties of education in the world.
The new interim dean is a proud UAlberta alumnus, having completed his undergraduate degree, Master of Education and Doctor of Education (in Educational Policy Studies) in this faculty. He has been serving as Vice-Dean of Education since 2013, and prior to that he served as Associate Dean (2011-13) and Associate Chair in Educational Policy Studies (2010-11). Before joining UAlberta’s Faculty of Education in 2006, Wimmer held a faculty position at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Educational Administration.
His research interests include post-secondary educational administration, leadership and governance, and teacher education, including Aboriginal teacher education and support for internationally educated teachers.
Wimmer is committed to supporting the outstanding work of faculty, staff and students in Education’s four departments and its School of Library and Information Studies and will continue to build on the faculty’s history of inclusivity and diversity.
