Congratulations to Dr. Ali Shiri, professor of library and information studies, on receiving the 2021 J. Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research!
The U of A's most prestigious research award recognizes and honours faculty members whose research contributions and impact (both academic and knowledge mobilization/translation), add significantly to our knowledge base; who are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarly accomplishments; who set a standard of excellence for other University of Alberta faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and the community-at-large, as they contribute to our mission of research For the Public Good. Dr. Shiri joins the ranks of previous winners from Education that include Max van Manen (2002), D. Jean Clandinin (2001) and J.P. Das (1987).
The Journal of Intelligence has named Educational Psychology professor Dr. Okan Bulut the winner of the J.Intell. 2021 Young Investigator Award. Dr. Bulut is an associate professor of measurement, evaluation and data science, and is a member of the Centre for Research in Applied Measurement and Evaluation (CRAME). He conducts research in the areas of psycho-educational assessments, educational data mining and digital assessments.

Congratulations to Educational Psychology PhD students Guher Gorgun and Genan Hamad, who each received an Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship for their research on improving automated online assessment systems.
Congratulations to Dr. Hang Tran, whose dissertation Narrative Inquiry into the Experiences of Vietnamese Children and Mothers Composing Lives in Transition to Canada has been chosen to receive the Canadian Association of Teacher Education Recognition Award! The award will be presented at the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) Conference in May.

Congratulations to Education PhD student Karen Pheasant-Neganigwane, who has been awarded the 2021 Norma Fleck Award for Children’s Non-Fiction for her book Powwow: A Celebration Through Song and Dance.
Pheasant-Neganigwane is a Anishinaabe scholar currently working on her PhD and specializing in Indigenous Peoples Education. In addition to her doctoral studies, Karen has been an instructor at the U of A and is an assistant professor at Mount Royal University.
