Dear Education Students,
We hope you had an excellent summer. September is upon us, and we’re back to the books! We’re looking forward to crunchy leaves, crisp textbook pages, and excessively large cups of coffee on early autumn mornings. We’re also excited to have the hallways and classrooms fill up again with the lively chatter of students and teachers.
For those of you returning for another year of study, or just reminiscing about your time here, welcome back! And, for those of you who are joining us for the first time, we want to warmly welcome you too. You’re joining one of the best Education faculties in Western Canada, with a long-time reputation for excellence in research and teaching. We’re proud of our students; staff; faculty; and alumni, and we would love for you to be a part of what we are doing! For example, we encourage you to check out our Education Students’ Association: get connected with opportunities for professional development and with people who want to make a difference, just like you. As well, if you are into asking those big picture questions, check out the many opportunities for undergraduate research that are available.
Please, make yourself at home. We’d love the chance to get to know you better. Feel free to pop in to any of the offices and services we have here in the Faculty during the year to say “Hello!” Your friendly neighborhood advisors down at Undergraduate Student Services would be happy to help you with any questions about your program, course selection, planning, transfer credit, graduation or important dates/deadlines. They can also answer any questions you might have about your teaching field experiences. As well, if you need any help with that EDU 250 essay or crafting your first lesson plan, the lovely librarians down at H.T Coutts Education Library know everything there is to know about curriculum resources.
We work our hardest to help you have the most successful B.Ed possible. We know you work hard too; we recognize that, with a number of scholarships and awards available, both within the Faculty and at the U of A. So, why not apply?
Can’t get enough of the Faculty of Education? (Neither can we!) Like our Facebook page, and receive updates from USS, news about upcoming events, and all that’s happening with your fellow apple eaters.
We’re so glad you’re here and we want to thank you for letting us be a part of your post-secondary experience.
Now, in the immortal words of Dr. Seuss: “Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way!”
Have a wonderful semester.
